The User Absence Planner is a Jira app that helps teams manage employee availability by tracking absences such as vacations, sick days, remote work, and other leave types—all directly within Jira. It’s perfect for improving team planning, resource management, and sprint forecasting.

As an administrator, you can install the app directly from the Atlassian Marketplace. Go to Apps -> Explore more apps, search for User Absence Planner, and click Try it free. Alternatively, visit the official app documentation for more guidance.

Yes, there are versions available for Jira Cloud and Jira Data Center.

Yes. You can define unlimited custom absence types to suit your company’s specific needs. The following absence types are available by default and can be modified as needed:

  • Business trip
  • Holiday
  • Sickness
  • Conference
  • Trade fare participation
  • Long term leave
  • Other

Currently, only the DC version provides a calendar view. However, we have it on the roadmap for the Cloud version as well.

Yes. You can configure visibility settings to control who can view or manage user absences—helping protect sensitive leave information when necessary.

Absences are visible in Jira issues, while the appearance is a little bit different for Cloud and DC version:

  • Cloud version: See a comprehensive overview of availability of users in user fields like assignee or reporter. The overview can be accessed via a separate section in the items sidebar
  • DC version: An user availability indication is displayed right next to the user avatar in all user fields or user mentions (e.g. in comment or description). Furthermore, you can see more information when opening the user profile information in an issue.

Yes, you can define an alternate user for your absences and decided whether you want to have items assigned to you automatically reassigend to that user or commented on.

Cloud version: As an Atlassian Cloud app, User Absence Planner complies with Atlassian security and data privacy standards. All data is stored securely and handled according to GDPR compliance and Atlassian app security best practices. The app is built with Atlassian Forge and holds the Cloud Fortified and Runs on Atlassian badges. This means that it runs completely on Atlassian infrastructure and no data leaves your Cloud instance at any time.

DC version: The app runs in your Jira Data Center installation and all data is securely stored in your Jira database.

Users must be authenticated Jira users. App access and permissions can be controlled via specific app settings and controlled for Jira projects, groups or individual users.
